    The course is aimed at supervisor levels and above.

    Both the high voltage switching and access courses (developed after consultation with industry) have two sections. Section 1 relates to legislative, PPE, test equipment, safety equipment, and equipment operation, earthing, hazards associated with the operation of high voltage switching equipment.

    Section 2 is the practical component where the participants develop and implement Switching for Access.

    Description

    Completion of the Hazardous Area Classification and Design Course will provide a person with the nationally recognised competencies required by a person conducting activities associated with the Classification of Hazardous Areas, or the Design of Explosion Protected Electrical Installations for Hazardous Areas.

    Importantly, Techserve’s course includes the pre-requisite competencies, which a person must hold, in order for a Statement of Attainment to be provided on successful course completion.

    This course covers the assessment of the certification documentation of explosion-protected equipment with a certificate of conformity other than an IECEx, ANZEx or AUS Ex Certificate and producing a conformity assessment document which could allow the equipment to be used for Group II or Group III.

    It encompasses skills and knowledge to examine and compare document content, compare requirements of IEC or AS/NZS standards with alternative standards on which the original certification was based, knowledge of explosion-protection techniques and technical report writing.

    It is applicable to Group I for assessing:

    • The conformity of equipment to a specific standard
    • Assessing equipment certified to a previous standard, for conformity to a current standard

    High Voltage Refresher for either the 4 competency or the 3 competency cluster courses.

    This course provides refreshment of the theory aspects of the High Voltage course. The frequency of refreshers is usually site dependent but tends to be every 2-3 years.

    It should also be noted that refreshers are conducted to the current competencies so it may not be possible for persons to be refreshed if they do not hold the current competencies.

    Description

    The LVR-CPR course covers the nationally recognised competencies that an electrical worker or an Electrical Safety Observer is required to hold under legislation.

    LVR encompasses the Risk Assessment of an electrical workplace; contents of a Low Voltage Rescue Kit; inspection, testing and safe use of the kits contents; procedures and methods for the safe rescue of persons involved in electrical incidents; and the completion of incident reports.

    The CPR component provides a student with the confidence, knowledge and practical skills to effectively provide CPR to a casualty.

    The course additionally provides some basic information on first aid treatment, for injuries commonly experienced as a result of electrical incidents.

    Description

    This unit covers development and documentation of project proposals, milestones and completions. It encompasses establishing budgets, critical path analysis, development of workflow strategies, documenting, presenting and negotiating budgets and timelines.

    This unit covers the management of large electrical projects involving design, modifications, installation, and/or maintenance of systems and equipment. The unit encompasses management of safety, budget variation, personnel, resources, critical path timelines and completion, evaluation and analysis of project performance, and the documentation required by a project.

    The two units are clustered to holistically encompass the aspects of project management lifecycle. Beginning with a project concept, the course guides a student into the initiation and planning phases. At the completion of planning and after development of all project processes, procedures, policies and baselines, the student gains knowledge in the application of these areas throughout project execution.

    Students are trained to enable incorporation of project tracking and conduct of earned value analysis as part of project execution.

    Finally the course addresses project closeout where evaluation of the outcome of the project is conducted. This includes documentation of best practices and lessons learned into a repository for the benefit of future similar projects.

    Description

    Techserve offers DES training from the RII - Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package. This course meets the underground coal mining industry’s requirement for those conducting maintenance on explosion protected diesel engine systems. The course is suitable for persons with trade qualifications that are maintaining diesel vehicles, as well as MEM’s, supervisors and diesel co-ordinators to give them an understanding of the necessary skills, competencies, standards, acts and regulations applicable to diesel engine systems used in underground coal mines.
